CO-PRESIDENT
Mehul Jain
My name is Mehul Jain and I am a senior at Duke University studying Biology on the pre-medicine track. Ever since a young age, I have had a deep and growing passion to alleviate the cyclic poverty plaguing India. It is my wish that I do as much as I can to give back to my community which has and always will be my family’s home. Medicine is a profession designed to help people and although I have a long way to go before curing anyone of anything, HHI has given me the opportunity to create a positive impact for those who need it the most throughout my college years and beyond.
CO-PRESIDENT
Aden Clemente
My name is Aden Clemente and I’m a junior at Duke University. I’m planning on majoring in biomedical engineering and minoring in global health, with a long-term goal of earning an MD/PhD. I was drawn to HHI because its mission of providing sustainable, clean water resonates with my own interest in water quality and equity. In the past, I’ve explored this interest through a Bass Connections project studying radium water contamination in Texas. It was through this project that I also gained experience applying for grants. As VP of Internal Affairs, I hope to bring this experience and my passion for water equity towards helping further the much-needed work of HHI.
VICE PRESIDENT, Finance
Yash Shah
My name is Yash Shah and I am a senior at Duke University studying Economics. Driving change and working towards improving the lifestyle of the impoverished in my homeland India has been my goal since the beginning of high school. As someone who’s grown up in India, I am well aware of the lack of clean water and the multitude of diseases and deaths that are caused due to the same. Being able to install Afridev hand pumps across several Bokaro district villages is a noble cause and HHI has given me the opportunity to help bring about change.
VICE PRESIDENT, EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Anna Tharakan
My name is Anna Tharakan and I am a sophomore attending Duke University planning to major in Biology and Global Health on the pre-medical track. From learning about health inequalities in class to observing the effects of small lifestyle changes on the community, I have been able to build a passion in social determinants and health justice within local communities. By expanding the access to water pumps, HHI expands opportunities for the community and increasing the quality.
VICE PRESIDENT, OUTREACH
Akhilesh Shivaramakrishnan
My name is Akhilesh Shivaramakrishnan and I am a sophomore at Duke University. I’m planning on majoring in global health and public policy, and hope to explore both scientific and policy driven solutions that will help to address the significant barriers to healthcare access that exist around the world. In India, my family’s home, inequities in education, health, and other basic rights are overwhelmingly present—with a huge gap between the ultra rich and the poor. I hope that through the work I do in HHI, I can help to close that gap just a little bit by advocating for water rights and working to implement clean water solutions in the villages of northeast India.
MEMBER, EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Ishaan Mehrotra
My name is Ishaan Mehrotra, and I am a sophomore at Duke majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. I was born in Connecticut, but have lived most of my life in Charleston, South Carolina. The notion of “Healthcare for All” is really important to me, and this inherently pertains to the particular access of a continuous and purified source of water in every part of the world. I am passionate about our Healthy Hands Initiative, and I look forward to furthering the mission on a daily basis.
