Gouri Kallambella
My name is Gouri Kallambella, and I am a senior majoring in Biological sciences with a concentration in Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience. As a pre-med with a passion for health equality around the world, and a specific interest in healthcare for rural communities, I’ve had eye opening experiences of the disparities in access to basic resources. My passion for promoting access to clean water and sanitation is also deeply personal. Growing up as a person of Indian origin, I witnessed family members and communities in India struggle with these challenges firsthand during my visits. These experiences deeply impacted me, and opened my eyes to the urgent need for sustainable solutions. By focusing on advocacy and action, I’m dedicated to creating meaningful change that addresses these inequities and builds healthier futures.

My name is Leah Short, and I am a senior at NC State University, majoring in Human Biology with a minor in Business Administration. As a pre-med student, I am passionate about healthcare and dedicated to serving my community. My connection to Trinidad and Tobago, where my mother’s family is from, has deeply influenced my aspirations. The region faces significant water contamination issues, including high mercury levels and toxic runoff, which impact public health. I am driven to make a difference in communities facing such challenges, which is why I became involved with HHI, to contribute to improving access to clean water and promoting wellness.

Aleena Mughal
My name is Aleena Mughal, and I’m a junior majoring in Human Biology on the pre-dental track at NCSU. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, but my family is from Pakistan, and I was taught the importance and value of clean water, and how much of a direct impact not having such amenities can have on a community. My parents also emphasized the necessity of always giving back, which is something Healthy Hands provides a space for. I joined HHI to expand on this on an international level, and try to help as many rural communities as possible. I look forward to the work we will do as team in the future!
